A steep Del Mar lot had to support a useful detached one-bedroom ADU while keeping the building footprint and foundation response disciplined. The small plan also needed enough flexibility to work beyond a single fixed furniture arrangement.
The team paired concrete pier foundations with a simple single roof plane, reducing the number of competing structural and formal moves on the sloped site. Inside, the 640-square-foot plan was organized to preserve options for everyday living rather than over-program each zone.
The completed detached ADU fits a one-bedroom program into 640 square feet and resolves the sloped site with a clear foundation strategy, simple roof form, and adaptable interior plan.
