Estimator – Remote

Remote · Contract

Pay: Rate negotiated per candidate.

We bid commercial work two ways: a defined trade scope for a larger general contractor, or a full project as the design-builder. We're hiring one fully remote Estimator to run that pipeline end to end, at one to two pursuits a week.

The job

You take an invitation to bid and carry it to a package ready to send: accurate quantities, leveled subcontractor quotes, every addendum accounted for, and a full price on top of them. You build the number and you can defend every line in it. The team agrees together where it finally lands, and you're in that room with the work behind you. Contract terms stay with the principal; everything up to the signature is yours.

What you'll own

  • The bid inbox. Triage, log, and flag every invitation bid or no bid with a one-line reason
  • Package control. Drawings, specifications, bid forms, geotech, wage determinations — and which sheet set is current
  • Quantity takeoff. The core of the job. On-screen from PDF sets: concrete, framing, envelope, drywall, finishes, sitework — auditable by someone who did not build them
  • Addenda and RFIs. Drawings change, you re-run the affected quantities and report what moved
  • Subcontractor quotes. Solicit, chase, and level them side by side, inclusions and exclusions called out
  • The price. Scope by scope, out of your quantities, our unit costs, and the quotes you leveled
  • Submission ahead of the deadline, and the bid log: what we bid, won, lost, and why

What you bring

You can take off a US commercial drawing set and produce quantities another person can audit — we are not counting years. That means fluent reading of architectural, structural, and MEP sets and CSI-division specifications, speed in one on-screen takeoff tool (Bluebeam, PlanSwift, STACK, Autodesk Takeoff, or one we haven't named), spreadsheets traceable to a sheet and a measurement, and email that gets a complete answer from a US subcontractor on the first try. Four hours of daily overlap with US Pacific hours, more on bid days. Computer and internet are yours; the software is ours.

How we work

We run our own estimating system rather than an off-the-shelf package: each project's drawings and documents in one place, with an AI assistant working the pricing alongside you. Take off in whichever tool you're fastest in, land the quantities in our system, price it there. You'll be among the first using it on live pursuits, and telling us where it's wrong is part of the job.

Engagement and hiring

Independent contractor, fully remote, working directly with the principal. This engagement is contracted with providers based outside the United States. You invoice us and handle your own taxes.

Shortlisted candidates get a paid test takeoff: a real bid package from a project we already built, three to four hours of work. We compare your quantities against what the job actually used. That tells us more than a resume does.
