Lead Carpenter – San Diego

San Diego, CA · Full-time · $34.00–$46.00 per hour

We're a licensed California design-build contractor running restoration, reconstruction, renovation, and remodel projects across San Diego County. We're hiring a Lead Carpenter — a working tradesperson who builds alongside a small crew and owns the quality of what leaves the site.

What you'll do

  • Build. This is a tools-on role, not a clipboard role
  • Run a crew of two to four on your project, setting the day's sequence
  • Lay out and execute framing, structural repairs, trim, and finish work
  • Read plans, catch conflicts before they get built, and raise them early
  • Verify your crew's work and correct what falls short before it's covered
  • Keep the site safe, clean, protected, and ready for the next trade
  • Take your project through punch and closeout

What you bring (required)

  • 5+ years of carpentry as your main trade, including time leading other carpenters
  • Strength in framing, finish, or restoration carpentry — and honesty about which
  • Your own hand tools
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to jobsites across the county
  • Comfort reading plans and using a phone for photos, daily notes, and schedules
  • A record of finishing the last ten percent without being chased

How the crew works

A Project Superintendent handles permits, inspections, subcontractor contracts, and the overall schedule. You own the carpentry and the people doing it. When something on the plans is wrong or a material won't arrive, you flag it early rather than building around it.

The growth path

Lead Carpenter is the step before Project Superintendent here. Carpenters who consistently hit quality, keep a crew productive, and communicate problems early are the people we promote into running whole projects. We'd rather grow a superintendent than hire a stranger.

Compensation

  • $34.00–$46.00 per hour, depending on demonstrated carpentry skill and crew leadership
  • Overtime paid per California law
  • Mileage between jobsites reimbursed under a written policy; ordinary commuting is not reimbursed

Benefits

  • W-2 employment — steady payroll, taxes withheld, workers' comp covered
  • Company health insurance
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
